COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Wofford College men’s basketball team defeated Air Force 74-61 to win the Reggie Minton Air Force Classic on Sunday afternoon. Junior Salters had a career-high 28 points in the game.
Wofford is 2-2 overall and Air Force is 3-1 on the season. The Terriers were led by Junior Salters with 28 points on 7-of-13 from three. Brad Loesing had ten points and Noah Dahlman had twelve points, while Tim Johnson led the squad with nine rebounds. Air Force was led by Matt Holland with 13 points and Evan Washington with seven rebounds.
“I am happy for our guys,” said head coach Mike Young. “Our guys did a lot of things well. We still have a lot of work to do, but this Air Force team has been ranked nationally recently and are tough to beat on their home floor. To come in here and win is great for our kids and great for our confidence with some young kids on the floor. We will take the win and move along.”
Wofford trailed by nine points with 2:34 remaining in the first half. The Terriers went on a 9-0 run to tie the game at 29-29 at the break, which included a three by Junior Salters and three-point plays by Noah Dahlman and Drew Crowell.
Air Force was able to regain the lead early in the second half, going up 33-31, before the Terriers had another scoring spurt. This time, the Falcons were outscored 13-0 in a span of three minutes, and were never able to recover. Air Force got no closer than nine points the rest of the way, while trailing by as many as 20.
Wofford shot 42.3% from the floor and 44.4% from three. The Terriers were 78.3% from the line. The Falcons shot 38.3% from the floor and 28.6% from behind the arc. Air Force was 90.5% from the foul line. Wofford had a slim 31-30 advantage on the boards. Wofford had only nine turnovers in the game.
Junior Salters was named the MVP of the Reggie Minton Air Force Classic. Noah Dahlman also was selected to the All-Tournament Team.
The Terriers will open the home slate on November 25 against UNC Asheville at 7:00 pm.
