SPARTANBURG, SC – The Wofford College baseball team completed fall practice on Saturday with the final game of the Black and Gold Series. The gold team, led by Michael Gilmartin and Jake Williams, swept the three-game series.
“Over the six weeks of practice we had a productive fall,” said head coach Todd Interdonato. “We stayed healthy, developed our style on the field and gained strength in the weight room.
“The first fall game against Francis Marion gave us a chance to figure out what we had in all the new players and set a benchmark. In the second game against Belmont Abbey and in the Black and Gold Series, we were able to see the progress we made over the fall. We will give the team the rest of the semester to focus on academics and return to the field in January.”
The two fall contests were not scored and do not count in results or standings. However, the two games did count towards the NCAA limit of 56 playing dates in the academic year.
The Terriers will play a total of 54 games during the regular season, including 31 contests at Russell C. King Field on the Wofford campus.
The Terriers regular season will begin with a weekend home series at Russell C. King Field. Wofford hosts SIU-Edwardsville on February 20, with a doubleheader against Virginia Tech on February 21 and a single game against UNC Asheville on February 22.
