SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford men’s golf team will welcome 11 schools for a 12-team tournament, the 21st Annual Coca-Cola Wofford Invitational, March 31-April 1, at The Carolina Country Club in Spartanburg, S.C. The host Terriers will complete the dozen competing on the par 72, 6,877-yard course.
“We are very excited about the opportunity to welcome a number of solid opponents to our home tournament yet again this spring,” said head coach Vic Lipscomb. “The course, as always, is in great shape and we look forward to the competition.”
Three of the past four team champions in the event, including last year’s winner Elon, return to the field this season. Also back to participate are 2004 champion Furman and 2006 winner Charleston Southern.
Five schools (Akron, Presbyterian, Radford, USC Beaufort and USC Upstate) will be making their inaugural appearance in the two-day, 54-hole event.
Junior Neil O’Briain, a two-time All-Southern Conference pick and the league’s Freshman of the Year in 2005-06, leads the host Wofford squad with a 72.5 stroke average. The Terriers’ lone senior, John Gault, carded a second-place tying result at the 2007 Wofford Invitational presented by VAULT.
