CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Wofford women’s tennis team fell 4-0 to Davidson in the first round of the Southern Conference tournament Friday afternoon in Charleston, S.C., falling out of contention for the SoCon Championship title.

Hosted by league foe The Citadel, the Southern Conference tournament only requires that a team capture four match points, starting with doubles action. Doubles competition is called once a team has won two of the three matches.

The No. 3 seeded Wildcats started the match with an advantage by winning the doubles point with the first two matches in their favor. The No. 6 seeded Terriers battled in singles play, but Davidson pulled the edge winning the necessary three matches at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 singles to clinch the match and move on to the next round of the league tournament.

No. 3 Davidson will play the No. 2 seeded College of Charleston Friday at 12:20 p.m.

Wofford finished the season with a 12-8 overall record, while going 4-5 in the SoCon.
