FLORENCE, S.C. -- Wofford improved its team score by 17 strokes, the greatest difference among the eight schools to shoot better during second round play, to jump one spot and enter final round action in seventh place out of 10 at the Southern Conference Men's Golf Championship Monday at The Country Club of South Carolina in Florence, S.C.

The Terriers carded a 1-over par 289, down from an opening-round 306 to finish 36 holes with a 19-over par 595 and move within six shots of fifth-place tying Elon and UNC Greensboro on the par 72, 7,062-yard course.

No. 12 Chattanooga pulled away from the field after holding just a one-shot advantage during Sunday's opening round. The Mocs put some distance between them and second-place College of Charleston, who now stands eight shots back.

Junior Drew Perry continues to pace Wofford on the individual leaderboard with a fifth-place tying 73-70--143 (-1). He is one of just eight players under par through the first two rounds.

Sophomore Mike McKenzie is not too far behind Perry thanks to a 74-71--145 (+1). McKenzie is tied for 11th with two others.

McKenzie is one shot ahead of classmate Garrett Medeiros, who is tied for 14th after carding a 2-over par 74-72--146.

Senior John Gault, a last minute addition to the Terrier group, registered the most improvement in strokes during second round play. He finished the day tied for 46th following an 85-76--161 (+17).

Freshman Rob Gorrell concluded the Wofford contingent with an 85-82--167 (+23) to place 50th.

Chattanooga's Ben Rickett is the top individual with a 3-under par 72-69--141.

The three-day, 54-hole event will finish with the final 18 holes Tuesday.
