BASEBALL:  Terriers see work in summer leagues around the nation
Many Wofford baseball players will leave the aluminum at home and pick up the wooden stick this summer to participate in a number of collegiate summer wooden bat leagues.  Catch these Terriers around the country this summer.

Cape Cod League - Michael Gilmartin (Cotuit Kettleers)
Coastal Plain League - Jordan Mickleberry, Scott Summers (Asheboro Copperheads), Kyle Behrendt (Gastonia Grizzlies), Tom Dolinak, John Cornely (Outer Banks Daredevils)
Hawaii Collegiate Baseball League - Ryan Toniolo (Hawaii Aliis), Jake Williams (Kauai Menehunes)
Southern Collegiate Baseball League - Reid McElveen, Neil Robinette, Michael McDonnell, Pete Noordsy (Spartanburg Blue Eagles), Alex Lee, Carson Turner (Asheville Redbirds)

The Spartanburg Blue Eagles of the Southern Collegiate Baseball League are playing their games this summer at Russell C. King Field here at Wofford.

Wofford assistant coach Anthony Dillenger will serve this summer as the head coach of the Morganton Aggies of the SCBL.

Brandon Waring - Dayton 2
Brandon Waring continues hitting the long ball at Class-A Dayton
DOWN ON THE FARM: Vartanian begins GCL season with save; Waring 2nd on MWL homerun leaderboard

Brandon Waring's season at Class-A Dayton (Reds) has reached the midway point.  Waring participated in the Midwest League All-Star Game and Home Run Derby this past week.  On the year, Waring is batting .270 (66/244) and is in second place in the league with 13 homeruns and fourth in RBI with 43.

Former Terrier hurler Charles Vartanian was assigned to the Gulf Coast League Phillies (Rookie) and in his professional debut threw a scoreless inning to record the save in a season-opening win against the GCL Blue Jays.  The GCL Phillies play all their games at the Phils Spring Training Complex in Clearwater, Florida and unlike the rest of the minor leagues, the Gulf Coast League (and its developmental twin, the Arizona League) play all games at either 10:00 am or Noon.

- The good people of the Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney welcomed the stars of the Lucas Oil Racing Series (late models) to the dirt track this past Friday.  To make things a little more festive they invited a Wofford fan favorite, the Wade's Pea-Shirt Launcher to fire up the crowd.  Things were going great until halfway through the night a case of operator error by the captain of the cotton cannon revealed the threshold of what it can take.  Apparently 500psi of CO2 in one shot is about all.  Yep, the Pea-Shirt Launcher is on the DL, but have no fear, it will be good as new for the football home opener August 30.
