SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- The Wofford volleyball team will participate in three tournaments, all before the end of September, and host 10 matches inside the Benjamin Johnson Arena as part of the 2008 schedule released by head coach Corey Helle Monday.

"I'm excited about the chance to compete in three tournaments, including one locally," said Helle. "Each of our non-conference opponents will prepare us for the always tough Southern Conference schedule."

The Terriers open the campaign August 29-30 at the Tiny Laster Memorial Tournament in Hampton, Va., where they will face South Dakota, Fairleigh Dickinson, Delaware State and Canisius.

Wofford then begins its home slate Sept. 3 against Southern Wesleyan in the only home match until the final weekend of the month when it starts Southern Conference action against College of Charleston and The Citadel, Sept. 26 and 27, respectively.

The squad will remain in Spartanburg, however, for the USC Upstate Volleyball Classic Sept. 5-6. The Terriers are pitted against Radford, host USC Upstate, UNC Asheville and Hampton in the two-day event.

The final tournament on the docket will be Sept. 19-20 at the South Carolina State Tournament in Orangeburg, S.C. Wofford will face Charleston Southern, The Citadel, Coastal Carolina and North Carolina Central in the field.

Four-straight road conference matches open October, including a meeting with first-year SoCon foe Samford to close the stretch.

The Terriers return home Oct. 18 against Western Carolina as part of a five-match run inside the Benjamin Johnson Arena. Wofford will also play Appalachian State (Oct. 19), Furman (Oct. 22), Georgia Southern (Oct. 25) and Davidson (Oct. 26) during the homestand.

The final home contests of the season will be Nov. 8-9 against Elon and UNC Greensboro.

UNC Greensboro serves as the host institution for the Southern Conference Tournament, which will be held inside Fleming Gym Nov. 21-23.
