SPARTANBURG, SC – Wofford College has announced that Mark Prosser and Jay McAuley have joined the men’s basketball coaching staff for the upcoming season as assistant coaches.
Mark Prosser returns to Wofford after spending the last five seasons as an assistant coach at Bucknell University. He has been involved in all aspects of coaching, including scouting, prep recruiting and film breakdown. For the 2002-03 season, he served as an assistant coach for the Terriers.
“Mark did a great job for us before when he was on staff,” said Wofford head coach Mike Young. There have been a couple of times that we have tried to bring him back, but it never worked out until now. We could not be more pleased to have him with us as he is a special person.”
A native of Wheeling, West Virginia, Prosser is the son of the late Skip Prosser. He graduated from Marist College in 2002, where he worked with the program as a student assistant coach. Prosser earned Street and Smith honorable mention All-America honors at Lawrenceville Prep.
Jay McAuley has spent the last season as a graduate manager with the University of Georgia men’s basketball program. He handled a variety of tasks, including film exchange with opposing teams, video editing and assisting in preparation of scouting reports.
“Jay comes to us highly recommended from Coach Dennis Felton, who is a personal friend of mine,” said Young. “He is a native of Georgia and it is important to have a person on our staff who knows that state well. He will do a nice job for us.”
A native of Marietta, Georgia, McAuley won a roster spot on the Georgia team through open tryouts. He kept his place in the program for the four seasons as a walk-on. As a junior, he played in 17 games, including starts against Auburn and Clemson. During his senior season, he was elected co-captain.
A three-time member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll, McAuley completed his bachelor’s degree in business education in 2006. He is also pursuing a master’s degree in sports administration from Georgia.
Prosser and McAuley fill the positions previously held by Mike Boynton and Geoff Shyatt. Paul Harrison will begin his second season on Mike Young’s staff this fall.
