FOOTBALL:
 FanFest planned for Aug. 21
Wofford Sports Marketing is planning the 2nd Annual "Terrier FanFest" on Thursday, August 21 at 6:00 p.m.  The event will be held in the Verandah Lot at Gibbs Stadium and fans will have the opportunity to watch several of Wofford's fall sports teams practice while picking up free items such as posters, schedule cards, spirit items.  Fans will also be able to pick up or purchase season or individual game tickets at the event.  Refreshments will be served as well and the event is free.  

Fans will also have a first look at the renovations to the Richardson Building and take part in the launch of the department's new marketing campaign for the year. Stay tuned for more details!

Season ticket holders are encouraged to return your ticket information quickly as season ticket brochures have been mailed. 


FALL SPORTS:  Volleyball, cross country and soccer all release 2008 schedules
Schedules for all the fall sports have now been released.  Here's a quick look at some of the highlights for each sport:

Volleyball:  The Terriers will compete in three tournaments in the early-season (one hosted by USC Upstate) and will open the home schedule inside the Benjamin Johnson Arena September 3 for a non-conference match with Southern Wesleyan.  The 3rd Annual Girl Scout Sports Day at Wofford is September 27 (vs. The Citadel) and the Terriers host rival Furman on October 22.

Men's Soccer:  The men's soccer team opens its first season under new coach Ralph Polson at Presbyterian (where he served as head coach for 17 years) on August 29.  The first home match will be against ETSU August 31st.  The Terriers will host the Wofford/Nike Soccer Classic September 19 and 21 featuring Furman, Georgia State and USC Upstate.  The Clemson Tigers visit Snyder Field on October 14 for a 6:00pm kickoff.  The Terriers will host 8 home matches this year.

Women's Soccer: Coach Amy Kiah will begin her 10th season at the helm of the women's soccer team with a road match at ACC-member North Carolina State on August 22nd.  The Terriers will host a tournament featuring Kennesaw State, Furman, Presbyterian September 12 and 14.  The ladies will wrap up the year hosting Furman on October 30. In all, there will be 9 home women's matches this season beginning September 5th against South Carolina State.

Cross Country:  New head coach Bryan Jackson will have the Terriers competing in five meets including the season opener right here in Spartanburg - the annual Eye Opener at Milliken Park.   The longest trip will take the team to Louisville, Ky. this season for the Greater Louisville Classic.  Highlighting the season will be the Southern Conference Championship - an event Wofford will host at Milliken Park on November 1.

BASEBALL:  Terriers see work in summer leagues around the nation
Many Wofford baseball players will leave the aluminum at home and pick up the wooden stick this summer to participate in a number of collegiate summer wooden bat leagues.  Catch these Terriers around the country this summer.

Cape Cod League - Michael Gilmartin (Cotuit Kettleers)
Coastal Plain League - Jordan Mickleberry, Scott Summers (Asheboro Copperheads), Kyle Behrendt (Gastonia Grizzlies), Tom Dolinak, John Cornely (Outer Banks Daredevils)
Hawaii Collegiate Baseball League - Ryan Toniolo (Hawaii Aliis), Jake Williams (Kauai Menehunes)
Southern Collegiate Baseball League - Reid McElveen, Neil Robinette, Michael McDonnell, Pete Noordsy (Spartanburg Blue Eagles), Alex Lee, Carson Turner (Asheville Redbirds)

The Spartanburg Blue Eagles of the Southern Collegiate Baseball League are playing their games this summer at Russell C. King Field here at Wofford.

Wofford assistant coach Anthony Dillenger will serve this summer as the head coach of the Morganton Aggies of the SCBL.

DOWN ON THE FARM: Updates on Waring and Vartanian

As we head into Independence Day weekend, time to check in again on two former Terriers currently playing in the minor leagues.  Stats for Brandon Waring and Charles Vartanian are via www.milb.com through July 2.

Brandon Waring (Class-A Midwest League, Dayton Dragons, Cincinnati Reds)
Brandon continues to be among the MWL leaders in homeruns.  Currently he has 15, four behind league leader Ian Gac.  Gac however was recently promoted to High-A Bakersfield in the Rangers organization.  In 270 at bats, Waring has 15 doubles and 47 RBI (T-9th).  He has 135 total bases on the year and is batting. 278.


Charles Vartanian (Rookie Gulf Coast League Phillies, Philadelphia Phillies)
Charles has appeared in 4 games for the Phils and currently has no record and a 4.76 ERA.  In 5.2 innings, he has recorded one save (the season opener) and has struck out 10 thus far.



Number of the Week 
6
- The number of live television appearances for the Wofford football team.  The Terriers will be seen on SportSouth via the Southern Conference package three times (Chattanooga, at Elon, The Citadel).  There will be two appearances on CSS (at Georgia Southern, Furman) and one nationally televised showdown on ESPN2 at Appalachian State on Halloween night.
