TERRIER TALES: Reading program for youth reaches halfway mark
The Terrier Tales Reading Program has reached the halfway point in the year and it's not too late to get your child involved!  The Terrier Tales program is open to all children in grades K through 8.

This fall, nearly 900 students have enrolled in the program with over 50% having completed reading five books.
To participate, simply check out a book at any of the ten Spartanburg County Public Libraries.  Upon completing the book, the child returns to the branch with their bookmark to have it stamped by the librarian.  Once your child completes five books and receives five stamps, the bookmark becomes a free ticket to any home men’s or women’s basketball game!

When the bookmark is turned in at a game, Wofford will then mail the child their next bookmark to continue participating in the program.  The program is designed to reward children for reading during the school year and is sponsored by the Spartanburg County Public Libraries and Wofford College Athletics.

Wofford will award $250 to the school with the highest participation (bookmarks returned at athletic events).  The award will come with a visit from staff, coaches and student-athletes from Wofford in the spring.  The child with the highest participation (bookmarks returned at athletic events) will get to throw out a ceremonial first pitch at a 2009 baseball game and receive a Terrier prize pack.

At the conclusion of the football season, Mayo Elementary School - last year's participation winner - is the leading participant, but it is certainly not too late to take advantage of the program as seventeen men's and women's basketball games remain on the schedule ending March 2nd.
