SPARTANBURG, SC – The Wofford College baseball team completed fall workouts this week with the Black and Gold World Series. The gold team won the first game, but the black team won the final two games to clinch the series win.

The black team was selected by captains Kyle Behrendt and Jordan Mickleberry, while the gold team was selected by Mike McDonnell and Neil Robinette. Each of the three games in the series went nine innings.

In the first game, the gold team picked up an 8-2 win. Neil Robinette hit a grand slam in the fifth inning to lead the team. John Cornely was the winning pitcher, with Cash Collins throwing two shutout innings in relief.

Game two was won by the black team by a 20-1 score. J.D. Osbourne was the winning pitcher, going six innings with only one run allowed. Mac Doyle provided much of the offense for the black team, going 4-of-5 from the plate with three home runs and seven RBIs.

In the deciding game three, the black team won 18-8. Drew Sheridan was the winning pitcher with three shutout innings of work on the mound. James Foster led the black team hitting by going 3-of-5 with a home run and five RBIs. For the gold team, Josh McKinney was 4-of-5 with a double and Mike McDonnell was 3-of-3 with a double as well.

The Most Valuable Player of the series as selected by the coaching staff was catcher Mac Doyle. Doyle went 6-for-11 in the three games with a double, triple, three home runs and eight RBIs. He also scored six runs.

The Terriers regular season will begin with a weekend home series at Russell C. King Field against Pittsburgh on February 19-21.
