SPARTANBURG, SC – The Wofford College football team completed spring practice on Wednesday afternoon with a short, 60-play scrimmage. The practice was the last of fifteen days allocated by the NCAA for spring practice.

While the weather was not ideal with a light rain and cool temperature, the offense and defense each ran 30 plays. Special teams, including field goals from 27-yards, 32-yards and 37-yards, were also part of the scrimmage. Several highlights included interceptions by Tommy Irvin and Kendall Bratcher and long receptions by Justice Joslin and Andrew Young.

“Fifteen practices are done and I think they were very productive all fifteen combined,” said head coach Mike Ayers. “There might not have been as much intensity as we would have liked in this last one, but we accomplished what we wanted to.

“We have put in a lot of stuff this spring. Offensively pretty much we implemented the whole playbook and wanted to see how much the kids could handle. I think that will help us when we come back in August as far as the recall. Defensively we made a great deal of progress and we are much better at breaking on the ball. The kicking game just needs to be a little bit more consistent and if we are, I think we have the makings of a pretty good football team.”

Wofford will begin spring break this weekend and return to strength and conditioning work on April 6. Fall practice will being in August in preparation for the season opener at South Florida on September 5.
