Loesing was named SoCon All-Freshman
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference coaches have announced their selections for the 2008-09 all-conference men’s basketball team. Wofford’s Noah Dahlman earned all-conference honors, while Brad Loesing was named to the All-Freshman team.

Dahlman is a sophomore forward from Braham, Minnesota. For the season, Dahlman is averaging 17.8 points per game, which is third in the conference and leads the team. He is also averaging 6.3 rebounds per game, which is thirteenth in the league and second on the team. His field goal percentage of 60.9% leads the Southern Conference and is 11th in the nation. Dahlman has led the team in scoring in 19 of 28 games played and had a career-high 36 points at College of Charleston.

Loesing is a freshman guard from Cincinnati, Ohio. He is averaging 5.2 points per game and 2.3 rebounds per game. He is second on the team and tenth in the conference with 84 assists. Loesing is also third on the team in steals with 22 and has only committed 64 turnovers while starting 28 of 29 games this season.

Dahlman is the fifth player named to the Coaches All-SoCon Team since Wofford joined the conference in 1997-98. Loesing is the fifth Terrier to be named to the All-Freshman team and the first since 2006-07 when Junior Salters was honored.

The Citadel’s Ed Conroy was named 2009 Southern Conference Coach of the Year in postseason balloting by the league’s head coaches. As part of the voting, Davidson junior Stephen Curry was named Player of the Year, while teammate Max Paulhus Gosselin earned the inaugural Defensive Player of the Year Award. Western Carolina’s Harouna Mutombo was named the Freshman of the Year. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own student-athletes.

In addition to the specialty awards, the head coaches made their selections for the all-conference team. Curry was joined on the all-conference team by teammate Andrew Lovedale. The Mocs are represented by Nicchaeus Doaks and Stephen McDowell, while Demetrius Nelson and Cameron Wells garnered all-conference plaudits for the Bulldogs. Kellen Brand of Appalachian State, Andrew Goudelock of College of Charleston, Wofford’s Noah Dahlman and Mutombo were also selected to the all-conference team.

Mutombo was also named to the league’s all-freshman team, along with The Citadel’s John Brown, Georgia Southern’s Ben Drayton III, UNC Greensboro’s Damian Eargle and Wofford’s Brad Loesing.

The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced their 2009 All-District Teams. Both Noah Dahlman and Junior Salters received second team honors in District 22.

Wofford will travel to Chattanooga for the first round of the 2009 Southern Conference Tournament on Friday at 7:00 pm against Elon.
