GREENVILLE, S.C.- The Wofford men’s and women’s track teams competed down the road over the weekend at the Furman Invitational hosted by Furman University at the Irwin Belk Track Complex. The Terriers posted new school records and personal best in multiple events during the meet.
The Terriers made their mark in the men’s javelin throw as the Terrier duo of Carter Blanche and Andy Vess finished 1-2 in the standings. Blanche set a new school record with a throw of 180 feet and 5 inches, placing him first overall in the meet and 4th in the current Southern Conference rankings. Vess , who finished second in the meet, tallied a throw of 161 feet and 9 ½ inches which ranks him 8th overall in the Southern Conference.
Elias Conits had another strong day for the Terriers as he took first place in the men’s 100M run and 200M run. In the 100M run, Conits set a new personal record in the preliminaries with a time of 10.97 seconds to take the heat and followed it up with a time of 11.01 seconds in the finals to take first place. In the 200M run, Conits also took first place with a time of 22.93 seconds.
Brian Smith and Mavrick Harris also set new school records in the men’s 400M run and the 3000M Steeplechase. Smith, with a time of 50.58 seconds, set a school record in the 400M while finishing tied for second. Harris set a new school record in the men’s 300M Steeplechase with a time of 10:38.31 finishing in the 5th spot.
On the women’s side, Catelyn Amende had the best finish for the Terriers as she posted a jump of 4 feet 6 inches in the women’s high jump putting her in the 6th position.
Both track and field teams will be back in action of Friday afternoon as they battle USC Upstate in the second annual Wofford vs. USC Upstate Dual Track Meet hosted by Broome High School at 4 p.m.
