DURHAM, N.C.- The Wofford men’s and women’s track team completed its third outdoor meet of the season over the weekend as they competed in the Duke Asics Invitational at Wallace Wade Stadium hosted by Duke University. On the men’s side the Terriers had three individuals set new personal records in their respective events.
Andy Vess had a great weekend for the Terrier men as he set a new personal record in the Men’s Javelin Throw. Vess set his new mark at 55.25 meters which equals 164 feet and 10 inches. The mark by Vess beats his previous best throw by nearly 24 feet and placed him 12th overall out of 26 competitors. His new PR also ranks him 8thin the Southern Conference.
Elias Contis had another solid showing for the Terriers as he set a new personal record in the men’s developmental 200 meter run. Contis new PR of 22.72 put him in the 2ndposition out of 16 individuals. Also with the time of 22.72, Contis is currently ranked 8th in the South Conference.
The third Terrier on the men’s side to set a new personal record was Brian Smith in the men’s developmental 400 meter run. Smith ran a 50.72 putting him second in his flight and 5th overall out of a field of 29. Smith’s time currently ranks him 9thin the Southern Conference.
On the women’s side, Caroline Burdette ran a time of 2:30.82 in the women’s developmental 800 meter run placing her in the 7th position in her flight and 62nd out of 77 in the field.
Both track teams return to action on Saturday as they travel to Greenville, S.C. to compete in the Furman Invitational hosted by Furman University.
