SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford College shortstop Michael Gilmartin was named to the All-Southern Conference second team as selected by the conference coaches on Monday. This is the third straight season Gilmartin has been named All-Conference. In addition, Konstantine Diamaduros and James Foster were named to the All-Freshman Team.
Gilmartin, a junior from Moorpark, California, was second on the team with a .335 batting average and 70 hits on the season. He led the team with 44 runs scored, 13 home runs, and 121 total bases, while his 49 RBI were second. As a closer, he made seventeen appearances with seven saves and 19 strikeouts along with a 3.38 ERA.
For his career, Gilmartin has a .339 batting average with 239 hits, 153 runs and 36 home runs. On the mound he has 50 career appearances in relief with a 3.66 ERA and 53 strikeouts. He is the all-time leader in saves with 19 in his career and in the top five in career hits, runs, total bases and RBI.
Gilmartin is the first Wofford baseball player to earn all-conference honors three times in his career. Tony Carbone was honored in both 2002 and 2004 by the conference at shortstop. Gilmartin was also honored this season by the Southern Conference Sports Media Association as All-Southern Conference second team at shortstop.
Diamaduros, a freshman from Spartanburg, S.C., played in all 49 games with 46 starts at first base, left field, right field and as the designated hitter. He finished the season with a .299 batting average and led the team with 50 RBI. His seven home runs were fourth on the team and his 95 total bases were third on the team.
Foster, a freshman from Dallas, Texas, played in 47 games with 44 starts, primarily in right field. He led the team and was eighth in the Southern Conference with 20 stolen bases. For the season, he posted a .287 batting average and had an eleven-game hitting streak, tied for the longest of the season on the team. Foster scored 40 runs on 50 hits and had 19 RBI as the Terriers lead-off hitter for the second half of the season.
