Complete 2009 Schedule
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Head coach Corey Helle announced today the 2009 Wofford Terrier volleyball schedule. The slate features 11 home matches and includes two regular season tournaments.
“We have a very experienced group returning this year,” commented head coach Corey Helle. “We are looking forward to our non-conference schedule because it will prepare us for the conference season, where we hope to be in the mix for a trip to the tournament.”
“Our 2009 schedule is filled with matchups against some great regional teams,” explained Helle. “We look forward to welcoming Southern Conference opponent Samford to Benjamin Johnson Arena for the first time, as well as continuing the great rivalry we have built with USC-Upstate.”
The Terriers will open the season at the Runnin’ Bulldog Classic, hosted by Gardner-Webb University in Boiling Springs, N.C., beginning on September 5. Wofford will face the University of Maryland Eastern Shore and Winston Salem State University, as well as host Gardner-Webb.
Following the tournament, the Terriers will host Savannah State University and Winston Salem State in a two-game home stint on September 9 and 15. The Terriers will travel to a second tournament in Orangeburg S.C., where they will again face Winston Salem State, as well as Providence, UNC-Asheville, and Hampton University.
Late September brings a three-game home stand for the Terriers, including the team’s first Southern Conference matchups, as Wofford hosts Georgia Southern on September 25 and Davidson on September 26.
After a cross-town trip to USC-Upstate on September 29, the Terriers will settle in to the SoCon schedule, beginning with a trip to Charleston, S.C. to face The Citadel and defending South Division champion College of Charleston. Wofford returns home to host UNC Greensboro on October 11, and travels to cross-town rival and defending SoCon champion Furman on October 14.
The weekend of October 17-18 finds the Terriers on the road at Appalachian State and Western Carolina. Wofford will host the newest member of the Southern Conference, Samford, on October 24 in the defending North Division champion’s first trip to Spartanburg. The Terriers will host UT Chattanooga on October 25 before making a short trip to face USC-Upstate and a slightly longer drive to Davidson, N.C. to take on the Wildcats on October 30. The following day, Wofford will travel to the southern side of the conference to face Georgia Southern.
The Terriers’ final road trip of the regular season will be to Elon, N.C. to challenge the Phoenix on November 7. From there, Wofford will round out the regular season with three straight home matches against Furman on November 11, College of Charleston on November 13 and The Citadel on November 14.
