SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The construction on the Joe E. Taylor Building on the Wofford College campus is nearing completion, with a move-in date scheduled for Monday, June 15. The first shipment of equipment for the weight room arrived on Monday, June 8.
Wofford alumnus and South Carolina Secretary of Commerce Joe Taylor has donated $1 million for the renovation of the Curry Building into the Joe E. Taylor Athletic Building. The Taylor Building features a 7,000 square foot weight room and offices for athletic department staff. The building, located next to Gibbs Stadium, began renovations this fall and will be completed in June 2009. The weight room will provide student-athletes in all eighteen sports offered by Wofford to develop physically and competitively in athletics and the world beyond. The facility will be equipped with a wide variety of free weights, Olympic platforms and machines which will enable multiple sports to use the facility at the same time.
The Taylor Building also provides offices for administration and numerous sports, including men’s and women’s soccer, baseball, men’s and women’s golf, volleyball, men’s and women’s tennis and cross country and track and field. A conference room and several work areas give the coaching staff much needed space.
Naming opportunities within the Joe E. Taylor Center are still available and can be discussed with the Wofford College Development Office (864-597-4200).
