SoCon Announces Spring Academic All-Conference Teams

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference announced on Wednesday the Academic All-Conference teams for the 2009 spring season. A total of 320 student-athletes, representing all twelve Southern Conference institutions, were named to the team. Wofford College had 22 individual honorees.
The Terriers had five baseball, three men’s golf, four women’s tennis, six men’s indoor track and field, one men’s tennis, one women’s golf and two women’s indoor track and field student-athletes honored by the conference.
To be eligible, a student-athlete must possess at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average entering the spring season. The 320 student-athletes, which participated in men’s and women’s tennis, men’s and women’s golf, baseball, softball and men’s and women’s outdoor track and field, averaged a 3.56 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
This is the seventh year that the Southern Conference has named an Academic All-Conference Team by season.
Appalachian State placed a league-high 44 student-athletes on the list followed by Western Carolina (33) and Georgia Southern (32). A total of 113 outdoor track and field athletes were honored (56 men, 57 women), in addition to 65 from baseball.
