Track and Field Teams Earn All-Academic Team Honors

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford College men’s and women’s track and field teams have been named All-Academic teams by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. The women’s team ranked 28th in the nation, while the men were 45th nationally.
The Wofford women’s team posted a grade point average of 3.38. The men had an average of 3.08. Both teams were second among Southern Conference schools honored this season.
A total of 130 Division I programs were recognized as women’s 2009 All-Academic Teams, including five from the Southern Conference. Chattanooga was the top-ranked team in the nation with a grade point average of 3.55. Wofford was ranked 28th, followed by Elon (42), Samford (118) and the College of Charleston (121).
A total of 67 Division I programs were recognized as men’s 2009 All-Academic Teams. The Southern Conference had four teams selected as All-Academic Track and Field Teams – Chattanooga (18), Samford (20), Wofford (45) and Davidson (65).
The 2009 cross country season will begin on September 1 with the Wofford/USC Upstate Cross Country Relay at Milliken Park.
