SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Former Terrier Brandon Waring has been named the Minor League Position Player of the Year by the Baltimore Orioles organization. Waring also was honored as the Carolina League's Most Valuable Player.
Waring had a stellar season with the Class-A Frederick Keys in the Baltimore Orioles organization. With the Keys, Waring batted .273 with 26 homers, 35 doubles and 90 RBIs in 128 games. His 90 RBIs led the Carolina League. On September 1, he was promoted to Class AA Bowie Baysox. In his first game with the Baysox he was 2-for-3 with a homer, double and five RBI. He was named Most Valuable Player in the Carolina League, the first Frederick Key in franchise history to earn the honor.
On Wednesday, September 16, Waring will be honored by the Baltimore Orioles in a ceremony at Camden Yards as the organization's minor league position Player of the Year. Waring will receive the Brooks Robinson Award.
A seventh-round pick in 2007 out of Wofford by the Cincinnati Reds, Waring was sent to the Orioles along with infielders Justin Turner and Ryan Freel in December for catcher Ramon Hernandez.
