Terrier Tales Reading Program enters fourth year
Shown here is the back of the bookmark available at all ten SCPL locations.
The Wofford College athletic department and Spartanburg County Public Libraries have teamed up again in 2009 to continue a special reading program, “Terrier Tales”, for elementary school children throughout Spartanburg County. The program is designed to reward children for reading during the school year. Children who complete the program receive a free ticket to any home Wofford football game and all men's and women's home basketball games this season (based on ticket availability).
A special promotional poster (shown above) has been distributed to every elementary and middle school (public and private) classroom in Spartanburg County.
To participate, children check out a book at any of the ten SCPL locations. Upon completing the book, the child returns to the branch with their bookmark to have it stamped by the librarian. Once your child completes five books and receives five stamps, the bookmark becomes a free ticket to any home Wofford football or basketball game (based on ticket availability). Wofford will mail a new bookmark to your child once it is turned in at the game and the process continues throughout the basketball season.
Wofford College Athletics will award $250 to the school with the highest participation (bookmarks returned at athletic events). The award will come with a visit from staff, coaches and student-athletes from Wofford in the spring. The child with the highest participation will get to throw out a ceremonial first pitch at a 2010 baseball game and receive a Terrier prize pack.
Thanks to the Spartanburg County Public Libraries and all seven school districts in Spartanburg County for making this program possible.
